Our GP registrar is also available for appointments from 9.00am to 4.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Our nurses are available for appointments from 8.30am to 5.15pm from Monday to Friday.

Consultations are by appointment although urgent problems can be seen as needed. Each appointment is normally for 15 minutes and we appreciate a phone call if you are going to be late or need to change the time. If appointments are not kept without letting us know in reasonable time to re-book them, a fee may be charged. We will also endeavour to contact you if we are running late due to accidents and emergency cases.

It is very helpful if you can say whether your appointment is for a particular need such as ACC, ante-natal, insurance medical, contraception, complementary medicine, acupuncture etc so they can be fitted in appropriately. If you think you may need more time please ask for a longer appointment.

After hours Doctors – including Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays:

After-hours calls are initially put though to a nursing triage service that can give medical advice.  For medical advice you can phone Healthline on 0800 611 116, which is available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.   There is also the Medical and Injury Centre at 96 Waimea Road, Nelson, which is open every day from 8am to 10pm (03 546 8881).   If there is a medical emergency and delay in reaching the duty doctor, phone 111.

Home visits and urgent call outs are normally restricted to patients who live in the Mapua and Moutere districts. Those living in other areas may need to consider contacting the local medical service in that area or attend the Medical and Injury Centre.

Appointments

We aim to provide appointments with the doctor of your choice in as timely manner as possible. In urgent situations we cannot guarantee being able to see a specific doctor as it depends on who has available appointment space.   We are aware that there can sometimes be delays from arriving at the health centre and being called in to see the doctor.   These usually relate to unexpected emergencies or other complex medical situations.  Where possible we try to contact you to let you know there could be a delay.  If you have a tight schedule it can be helpful to phone in advance to check that we are running on time.
